Our Eco Beehive: Proof That Macedonia is the Land of Pure Honey

Our Eco Beehive: Proof That Macedonia is the Land of Pure Honey

It's time to start thinking about spring trips. Very soon, the wildlife in Macedonia will awaken, and with it, our desire for active travel. In the coming period, we will introduce you to regions in Macedonia that are ideal to visit in spring and summer.

Today, we introduce you to the brothers Blagoj Jovchevski and Naco Jovchevski, who have dedicated their lives to beekeeping and developed a beautiful story that inspires many foreign tourists. Their beekeeping farm is located in Dihovo, a mountain ecological village on Pelister. The "BN" beekeeping farm was established in 2005 with the goal of producing honey for personal use, but in a very short time, it grew into a family business.

The brothers say that in 2014, they started developing "Apitourism" in Macedonia. According to them, this is the first beekeeping farm in Macedonia that offers api services. By 2016, they opened the first apicocoon, where guests can experience the scent of bees.

The exceptional location is what gives this beekeeping farm its advantage. The very location of the village of Dihovo offers a healthy life in a pristine environment. Currently, they own over 400 bee families, which are spread across the slopes of Baba Mountain.

The beekeeping farm is surrounded by fruit plantations of raspberries, strawberries, cherries, sour cherries, apples, pears, and more.

The majority of the guests are foreign tourists, who visit from April to September. After each presentation, Naco says that the next activities include photographing tourists with an open beehive, tasting honey directly from the hive frame, dressing in beekeeping gear, and many other activities.

Foreign tourists are fascinated by the entire place, says Blagoj. They comment that from their apartments on the 20th floor, they only see clouds, while here in Dihovo, it feels like paradise on earth for them.

After a one-hour lecture and training on the life of bees and the honey production process, guests can purchase various products in appropriate packaging. Blagoj says that the most in-demand products are forest and meadow honey, as well as royal jelly.

Depending on the time of year you visit the beekeeping farm, you can participate in the process of extracting honey, collecting pollen, producing royal jelly, and preparing equipment, including making frames. In addition to the beekeeping presentation (the life of bees and their significance), visitors also have an apitherapy session, and during the summer, they can enjoy a traditional village lunch in a rural yard in Dihovo, featuring delicious honey-based specialties.

Pelister is an ideal place for the peace and well-being of the bees. There is no pollution, no disturbance to the bees, and the area is surrounded by beekeeping pastures and countless amounts of floral nectar. The peak of Pelister and its characteristic Pelister wind are highly responsible for the perfect air spa.
