Handcrafted Wooden Decorations and Items: A Rare Craft in Macedonia
Handcrafted Wooden Decorations and Items: A Rare Craft in Macedonia
The Kajak.mk marketplace is adding its 29th stall, offering unique wooden creations. Today, we introduce you to Jovanče, whose works you can view and order with just one click HERE.
Jovanče has a unique story due to the fact that what he does in Macedonia is rarely practiced as a craft, and it can be said that there are no new generations focusing on keeping this craft alive.
Born in 1978, Jovanče from Veles is the guitarist of the punk rock band Olovna Restrikcija. He started practicing the craft three years ago, and as he says, the beginnings were just a hobby to fill his free time.
The moment his wife shared a photo on social media of something he made and received excellent reactions from people, Jovanče realized that his hobby could be much more than that.
Today, his creations serve two purposes. One is to bring happiness to buyers or those who receive them as gifts, and the second is an educational role aimed at teaching new generations about recycling and reusing already existing old items.
To complete one creation, Jovanče uses old wood, which he believes has a good past and soul, and he also incorporates old screws, recycled materials, paints, varnishes, and anything that comes to his mind that could fit into the envisioned story.
The uniqueness of his work lies in the fact that the creations are not mass-produced and that in Macedonia, very few people pursue this craft. All of his creations are different, and when making them, he often takes into account the requests of the buyers.
