Demir Kapija: An Ideal Destination for Active Tourism

Demir Kapija: An Ideal Destination for Active Tourism

The idea came to her while studying in the U.S., and she decided to return to her hometown of Demir Kapija, where she began building the story of the Popova Kula Winery. With these words, the host Lenche Nedeva shares the story of the beginnings of the 'Popova Kula' winery, located in Demir Kapija.

Kajak.mk is pleased that Popova Kula Winery has successfully adapted to the new era of tourism, offering ideal weekend tours for both domestic and international tourists to explore and experience the region in a truly authentic way.

Demir Kapija is a place that is definitely worth visiting. Here, you can experience wine tours, horse riding, and even rock climbing.

Lenche says that the winery will be remembered for its high-quality wine and the wine tours it organizes for guests, but she also believes this is a good moment to introduce freshness into the offering by giving more emphasis to active tourism.

"With the closing of borders and the quarantine, people need more freedom in nature. For this reason, we decided to organize our guests' free time with top local guides. This is a motivation for all of us, both for the winery and for the local guides," she says.

For all those reading our story, kajak.mk aims to encourage you to visit Demir Kapija and be active guests.

A weekend at Popova Kula can be spent with wine tastings combined with various types of food, enjoying the spacious yard of the winery, wine tours, tours to explore the history of Demir Kapija, and education on how the wine is processed.

The winery also organizes outdoor activities such as a walk along the Doshnica River, a visit to the Cactus Valley, climbing the Prossek Fortress, bike rentals for use on the trails around Popova Kula, rock climbing at Demirkapija Gorge, and horseback riding.

The greatest advantage of staying at the winery is that you'll learn a lot about wine. The hotel, within the winery, has named all 33 rooms after their wines, and the room decor is in line with whether the wine is white, red, or rosé. What Lenche hopes for is the return of tourism to normal. As she says, this place is a stopover destination for everyone passing through Macedonia, which in some way acts as a good promoter of what Macedonia has to offer.

Recently, we shared the story of Aleksandar, who moved from Russia to Demir Kapija. Click HERE to read more about his traveling life.
