Snow in North Macedonia: Current Conditions and Forecast
Snow in North Macedonia: Current Conditions and Forecast
This winter, North Macedonia has experienced snowfall, especially in the higher and mountainous regions. Popova Shapka is one of the snowiest areas, with a snow cover reaching around 26 centimeters, while Lazaropole and Mavrovo have smaller amounts. The mountain terrains are ideal for winter sports, and the snow creates a beautiful winter atmosphere for both tourists and locals.
In some towns, such as Berovo, smaller amounts of snow have also been recorded. However, most lower areas and cities, including Skopje, Bitola, Ohrid, and Kumanovo, are experiencing mostly rain or a mix of rain and snow. When temperatures drop, snow may accumulate even in these regions.
Meteorologists predict that snow will remain mostly on the mountains and higher areas, where temperatures stay below zero. These conditions are perfect for skiing, sledding, and other winter activities. For tourists looking to enjoy the winter beauty, the mountain regions are the main destinations during this period.
Snow also affects local infrastructure. Roads in mountainous areas are mostly covered with snow and ice, so drivers are advised to exercise caution. In cities, snow melts due to higher temperatures, but wet and slippery roads can still occur.
This winter season, snow in North Macedonia enhances the landscapes, creating opportunities for photography, tourism, and nature walks. Snow cover in the mountains and higher areas is also important for winter tours and sports, attracting both domestic and international tourists.
In the coming days, meteorologists forecast continued snowfall in the mountains, while lower regions will mostly experience rain. For those planning winter activities, the best destinations are Popova Shapka, Mavrovo, and Lazaropole, where snow conditions are optimal.
