Skopje Now Connects to 50 Direct Destinations as Travel from Macedonia Surges 29%
Macedonians are traveling more than ever, and the latest figures from the country’s airports confirm the trend. In the first nine months of 2026, Skopje and Ohrid airports handled 3,331,685 passengers, representing a 29% increase compared with the same period last year.
Skopje Airport alone recorded significant growth, at a time when the choice of direct flights from Skopje is larger than ever.
During the summer 2026 season, Skopje was connected to 50 direct destinations operated by 18 airlines. For travelers from Macedonia, this means easier access to a wide range of European cities without the need for connecting flights.
Among the direct destinations from Skopje were some of Europe’s most popular cities, including London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Barcelona, Madrid, Prague, Berlin, Stockholm, Oslo, Istanbul, Vienna and Zurich.
Throughout 2026, new travel opportunities were also added, including Naples, Budapest, Palermo and Alghero, further expanding the options for short getaways and European city breaks from Macedonia.
The 29% increase in passenger numbers also points to a change in travel habits. Air travel is increasingly being used not only for summer holidays or visiting relatives abroad, but also for weekend trips, short city breaks, concerts, sporting events, shopping and seasonal travel.
For travelers from Macedonia, one of the most interesting developments is the growing number of European destinations available directly from Skopje. This makes planning a short trip much easier and opens up more opportunities to travel throughout the year.
With 3.3 million passengers in just nine months and dozens of direct air connections, Skopje is strengthening its position as an important gateway from Macedonia to Europe.
If this trend continues, the growing number of direct destinations and rising air traffic could further change the way Macedonians travel across Europe.
