Pet Hotel Now Open!
Pet Hotel Now Open!
Interest in pet ownership is steadily growing among citizens in Macedonia. People living in urban areas who have pets often face unplanned trips, creating the need for someone to care for their pets while they are away.
For those who haven’t heard yet, the Kajak.mk team is excited to share the story of the pet hotel “PetCare Hotel,” which as of today is part of our private accommodation collection. This hotel is exclusively designed for dogs and cats.
Behind this interesting story are Nikola Radović, a veterinary medicine student, and Magdalena Kalčeva, a general medicine student.
They tell us that even though they are students, they are very dedicated to the work that is part of their daily lives. They can’t remember the last morning when they weren’t greeted by several happy puppies in the living room—and honestly, they wouldn’t want to know about any other kind of morning. They skillfully try to balance their studies and the responsibilities that come with this job, and they take pride in their success.
When asked where the idea for opening a pet hotel came from, Nikola shared that when he was very young, around 12 years old, his father—who is a veterinarian—asked him if he could take care of two kittens for people traveling abroad. Up until then, Nikola had cared for his own pets—kittens, dogs, lizards, turtles, parrots, hamsters—but none had been his full responsibility.
Fortunately, he found his passion in all of this. Around the age of 15, he started thinking about what he wanted to do in life and which profession would make him happy. That’s where the idea of a pet hotel came from. Right after finishing high school, he developed a plan for how it would all look. He moved to Ilinden, where he began building the hotel. Today, together with his colleague, they run their dream job at full capacity.
Pets here get their own cozy rooms in the cat and dog hotels built within the home, where they enjoy freedom, care, constant supervision, and access to a veterinarian 24/7 (Dr. Zharko from Pet-Vet). Each room is equipped with a bed, food and water bowls, toys, lighting, air conditioning for the summer, and underfloor heating for the colder months.
Additionally, dogs are freely allowed to walk and play in the living room and the securely fenced yard, and if the owners wish, long walks with the pets are arranged. Cats are free to lounge in the room where the cat hotel is located and on the specially built terrace, which is safe and allows them to look outside.
The conditions they offer, their consistent effort to fulfill the promise of caring for pets just as their owners would at home, and their genuine love for animals constantly evoke positive reactions from pet owners who have entrusted their pets to them. They are always happy when recommended, when they hear they were the most trusted choice, and especially when a pet becomes a regular guest. They see this as a sign of the owner’s trust, which they truly appreciate.
Owners like the conditions because they know the priorities are shared. Dogs aren’t kept locked in a kennel unless they’re aggressive toward others. If they are friendly, the rooms are used only for eating. Aggressive dogs get the yard on a rotation basis and long walks. The pet’s behavior clearly shows how their stay went—it's immediately visible if the pet was stressed or experienced any trauma.
Nikola says that what they aim for is for the pet to want to come back, to be happy to see them on a second visit, or even to forget about their owners when they arrive.
He often sees that owners feel hurt when they notice their pet is already fully engaged in play and not paying attention to them, Nikola explains. However, he adds that there are breeds that are truly bonded with their owners or simply don’t like to socialize, and for those pets, any separation is stressful.
