Continuing My Grandfather's Mountaineering Tradition

Continuing My Grandfather's Mountaineering Tradition

Some of our travelers patiently await the end of winter, while others know how to enjoy its harshness.

Among those who know how to embrace the benefits of winter is Eleonora Dimkovska. Yet another of our local heroines who motivates young people to fall in love with active mountain tourism.

For Kajak.mk, she says that she is a student at the Faculty of Security in Skopje. People know her as Nora, the girl who has been training gymnastics for 15 years.

She has been in love with the mountains since she was little. The main reason for her love for the mountains is her grandfather, who was an active mountaineer and often took her hiking. As the years passed and with her growing independence, Nora decided to continue her grandfather's tradition and dedicate her life to new adventures.

Hiking has always been one of her priorities, but she says that she started actively hiking at the beginning of the pandemic. Her biggest motivation comes from the people she meets in the mountains. She says they are very different from city dwellers. Everyone is positive and always in the mood for camaraderie. As a second important factor, she highlights the clean air and the breathtaking views that the mountains offer.

She is in love with "Pelister National Park" and spends most of her time there. For her, Pelister offers an incredible view that fills her with joy.

For the young and interested individuals reading this, Eleonora says they should know that you should never go to the mountain alone. Along with the beauty, the mountain also has its dangers. It's always important to hike with an experienced mountaineer and to listen to their advice.

The main reason I am an active mountaineer today is because I love a healthy lifestyle and the positive people I meet on every adventure, and of course, the experience, adrenaline, and fun that the mountain offers us," says Nora.

For her, every adventure has its own special story, but if she had to pick something she loves in winter, it would be sliding down the mountain top. This kind of adrenaline awakens the child within her, and that's the most positive thing that can happen to adults.
