Beekeeping: My Path to Freedom, Peace, and Tranquility in the Mountains

Beekeeping: My Path to Freedom, Peace, and Tranquility in the Mountains

The Kajak team is always happy when discovering new stories of local heroes who deserve attention, respect, and of course, support. If there is one thing we aim to encourage through our work, it is to boost the local economy and to prove to you that products bought from local farmers, agricultural workers, and artisans are always tastier than those sold mass-market.

Today we have another sweet story—another local hero whose journey is connected to beekeeping and honey production. His name is Vinko Koloski from Ohrid, and he tells Kajak that the reason he started beekeeping was his love for nature.

The buzzing of bees, the gentle movement of bare branches, the scent of herbs, freedom, and the endless joy of being alive—this is what guides him on the honeyed path and the building of his story. He chose honey as his product because it has no expiration date, and he has stationed his apiary at 950 meters above sea level in the village of Kuratica, where nature takes its course.

He says this region is special mainly because of the meadow flora, unlike other forested areas. Far from industry and roads, which are the main reasons the honey is healthy.

Today, he sells strained honey, honeycomb, and propolis, which can be tasted if someone wants to visit the apiary.

For us, Vinko is on a great path to developing gastro-tourism in Kuratica. He adds that soon guests will have the opportunity to taste more local homemade products, various teas made from St. John’s wort, savory herbs, homemade cheeses, homemade rakija, and many other products.

His brand is called Vinbee. He is currently known for 100% natural honey, which over the years has won the hearts of healthy food lovers.
