Beautiful Accommodation in Nikiforovo: The Reason to Escape There!

Beautiful Accommodation in Nikiforovo: The Reason to Escape There!

If you’re still deciding where to spend a weekend in December, the Kajak.mk team recommends visiting the village of Nikiforovo, where you can hear plenty of stories, facts, and legends.

Today, we want to introduce you to the host, Boro, with whom you can book a stay in his villa. If you want to see the villa, click HERE.

Nikiforovo is a village located within Mavrovo National Park, at the foot of Mount Bistra, right on the shore of Mavrovo Lake. The village sits at an altitude of 1,250 meters above sea level.

Boro shared some interesting facts about the village with us, and we hope you’ll learn even more if you decide to visit.

The Nikiforovska River runs through the village, fed by mountain streams from Maslarica, Lekoec, Petileb, and other smaller springs. Thanks to its location, clean mountain air, pure spring water, abundant beech and evergreen forests, forest fruits, and diverse wildlife, this village is considered a health retreat that rejuvenates, refreshes, and heals.

Additionally, the village water supply comes from the Ratkov spring, situated at an altitude of 1,700 meters, and according to tests, it is one of the highest quality drinking waters in Macedonia.

In the center of the village, you’ll find the memorial house of the national hero from the National Liberation War, Major Čede Filiposki-Dame, and the memorial room of Vidoe Smilevski-Bato, a participant in the first session of ASNOM, as well as a memorial fountain dedicated to the fallen fighters of the National Liberation War.

The village’s “sacred” status is evidenced by archaeological remains believed to be from a large monastery complex dating back to the 6th century, named after the saint St. Panteleimon — the same name as the village church.

A marked hiking trail starts from the village, categorized as moderate in difficulty. It leads to the Petileb spring and continues through the pastures of Bistra up to Sandaktas Peak, the second highest point in the Bistra mountain range.

There is a legend connected to the Petileb spring and its memorial fountain about a shepherd and a Sharplaninac dog, which reflects human character — and you can hear more about it from the host, Borche.

On the edge of the village, above the lower neighborhood, like a nest in a dense beech forest, lies the multifunctional sports and recreational ground “Svetislav Naumovski-Chekan,” surrounded by beautiful nature.

Just 5 kilometers from the village of Nikiforovo is the Mavrovo Ski Center — an ideal spot for skiers and lovers of active tourism. For those who enjoy horseback riding, we recommend the area around Galičnik, where on the way to the village you’ll find “Sherpa Horse Riding,” perfect for spring and summer adventures.

Traveling through the Radika River canyon, you can visit the Mijač and Rekan villages, known for their unique architecture, location, and culture. Just above the Radika River lies one of the most important monasteries in Macedonia and beyond — St. John Bigorski Monastery.

You can learn many more interesting details during your stay in Nikiforovo. The Kajak.mk team recommends “Kula Bor,” where you can find more information with one click HERE.
