Another way to explore Mount Korab

Another way to explore Mount Korab

On June 5th, 2021, as part of the hiking tour to the summit of Čaparec on Mount Korab, and within the framework of the mountaineering challenge “12 Peaks,” a promotion was held for the pocket-sized book-brochure “Records of Korab.” Dedicated to Mount Korab, it highlights its (un)discovered peaks, lakes, waterfalls, landscapes, and majestic beauty.
The book “Records of Korab” consists of 2 parts in which, across 48 pages, the following are included: a general geographical overview of Mount Korab and its (un)explored peaks, lakes, and landscapes, which includes a description of the natural-geographical features of Mount Korab, a historical overview of the legends from folk tradition about the name Korab, and records from the first mountaineering expeditions in the past, as well as descriptions with proposals for naming lesser-known peaks, lakes, waterfalls, places, and landscapes of Korab written by Mario Šarevski, and excerpts from records from the Mountaineering Diary noted and told by Zoran Todorovski, with data from our first transversal mountaineering crossing of the entire Mount Korab in 2019.
This book-brochure was created as a result of the first three-day transversal trek with tents along the entire ridge of Mount Korab in 2019, which was repeated and extended in 2020 in honor of the 1000th anniversary of the Bigorski Monastery. It contains data from research and visits to Mount Korab conducted between 2015 and 2018.

The goal of this book-brochure is, through the naming and given data about the exact locations—aligned with the shared experiences from visits to these peaks, lakes, places, and landscapes—to contribute to increasing the number of visits by hikers and tourists. This, in turn, promotes greater use and development of Korab’s potential, which offers outstanding opportunities in terms of mountaineering and tourism, as well as overall economic utilization, valorization, and well-being.

Copies of the book were distributed to all hikers present at the event and will continue to be distributed during future hiking actions and ascents of Mount Korab.
