From Russia to Demir Kapija: Organizing an Adventure Camp Every Summer
It’s already cold outside, but that doesn’t mean we should stay indoors. People with a positive mindset always find ways to make the most of every free day, embracing outdoor activities. Today, we introduce you to Aleksandr Klenov, the man who has been organizing a camp for adventurers and climbers in Demir Kapija for quite some time.
Aleksandr Klenov was born in the Soviet Union, in the region north of Kazakhstan. He completed his high school education in Russia before enrolling in a technical institute in the Ural region. However, since high school, he has been dedicated to the mountains, mountaineering, and rock climbing. During his time at the institute, he was a guide for a mountaineering club and later became part of a professional climbing team. He is a champion in many national and international competitions.
As a child, he practiced many sports, but in the end, he found his true passion in rock climbing. This is a harmonious sport that requires maximum concentration and intuition, forcing all your muscles to work, controlling your thoughts, and having mental control over your body, says Aleksandr.
For him, this year has been very difficult for everyone. The world is facing a huge crisis, but he says he hasn’t lost hope for the upcoming year. He expects outdoor sports to become highly sought after in the future, as people need an escape from daily worries, the hustle and bustle of the city, and constant control.
Nature gives us so much, which is why every outdoor activity fills you with energy and joy, and that is very important in life," he says.
Aleksandr adds:
"I’ve traveled a lot in my life, and all of that helps me in organizing the camp in Demir Kapija. The guests who come to the camp are mostly adventurers who rely on themselves, have vast travel experience, set up their own tents, and enjoy informal gatherings. Most of them don’t look for discos or organized parties; all they need is a starry sky, conversations with their friends, and tasting quality food. They want to get to know the area and the culture of the country. I also have my own motto, the slogan 'Find your Demir Kapija.'
What I focus on the most is the organization of the camp. Undoubtedly, every camper needs services like electricity, a kitchen, toilets, showers, hot water, internet, a fire pit, and, above all, cleanliness at the site.
What’s important to know is that winter is also a great time for outdoor sports. The climate in Demir Kapija is mild, usually without snow, and offers opportunities for any kind of activity. For hiking, I prefer winter – less thorns, not too hot, no snakes. There’s still the possibility for rock climbing, especially on a sunny day.
It’s also great for visiting caves, as they maintain almost constant temperatures both in summer and winter. As for cycling, it’s perfect throughout the entire year. The only obstacle is the long, cold nights, but you can spend them in good company with a glass of wine, enjoying the local cuisine. A tent in winter? Of course, for the extreme enthusiasts, but it’s still recommended to opt for a heated hotel room or apartment.
Demir Kapija is ready to welcome tourists in any season, and every guest can count on a warm reception.
